Yesterday we visited the Remuera Garden Centre to purchase several different items for our gardening project. 'From Garden to Table' is going to be our focus for term four and we are really looking forward to it!

"If you nurture in children, kindness and respect for other people and
nature, including plants and wildlife, they themselves will be
nurturing, imaginative and community minded."
-Megan Carter
Wow! Looking forward to seeing your beautiful garden filled with tasty vegetables and herbs!
ReplyDeleteThe Chew family want to grow some flowers and strawberries in our garden too. Can you teach me how to do it? What do I need for the flowers and strawberries to grow?
Hi Corrine, your comment formed the basis of our morning meeting today which was great! Here's what the girls wanted to share with you:
DeleteYou need soil and worm poos. - Vanessa
From the worm farm. - Isobella
That’s the place where we put fruit and the flies always like to go there. We run away from them when we open the lid. - McKenna
You need straw too. - Anika
Pea straw. McKenna
You need to put water on the plants. - Vanessa
Yes, so that they can grow. - Ria
And something very important is that you need to get rid of the weeds, because they snatch all of the water from the plants! - Vanessa
Weeds are a type of leaf. They grow even when you don’t plant them there. - Isobella
They are sneaky. - Anika
You don’t want them ever! - Isobella
Sometimes it’s good to put a net over the garden. To keep the birds off. - Emma
Plants need water and sunlight. - Isobella
Yip, they need it or they’ll die. - McKenna
We hope this helps! Perhaps Emma could bring some photos in of her garden to share with us all next term?
