Tree paintings.

Anika, Ria, Zoe, Sophia and Isobella all worked very hard on these paintings of our tree with the missing branch. They are really proud of their pictures. Can you spot the branches that have been cut away in their paintings?

  1. I think:

Isobella's painting: second branch from the bottom.
Ria's painting: second branch from the bottom on the right.
Sophia, Anika and Zoe: lots of little stumps from the bottom up.

    2. Isobella says - That we all did a very good job painting pictures of the trees.

Do you know about the biggest tree in New Zealand. What type of tree is it, how old is it and how big do you think it is?

    3. No we don't know what the tallest tree is in New Zealand, but we do know what the tallest tree is on Mt St John. Today we looked very carefully and we chose one that was very tall. Anika thought it was 100,0000 metres tall and Emma thought it was infinity and beyond.
Infinity means very, very tall. Taller than the school building.
It is called a Pohutukawa. It is called the NZ Christmas tree as it has red flowers on it at Christmas time.

    4. Wow, 1000,0000 metres tall. Infinty is even taller. Can you see the top of a tree if it is infinity tall?

We have lots of very tall trees in New Zealand. Kauri, Rimu, Kahikatea and Mountain Ash.

How many times bigger than a Pohutukawa do you think they are?
