There are stories in the windows.

Yesterday morning we visited our beautiful Chapel, where Reverend Moss shared with us some of the stories which are depicted in the stained glass windows. Here are some images of the girls absolutely captivated by Reverend Moss and the windows. Following on from this we returned to our classroom and the girls were invited to draw different aspects of the stories which were told.

Assembly.

On Friday we had the privilege of leading the Junior School assembly, which was very exciting indeed! Particularly, because this meant speaking into a real microphone.

The girls worked very hard to each memorize their own greeting in a different language (these ranged from French to Japanese) which they shared with the school, as well as a line for the prayer of thanks which the girls wrote together and shared at the close of the assembly. We also shared a wonderful power point entitled 'a week in the life of...' which showed loads of photographs of the different things that we get up to in the Foundation Class.

We are so incredibly proud of the girls and how well they did and have received really positive feedback from people in all areas of the school.

We hope you enjoy these images and mums and dads if you captured any great photographs please email them through to us, we'd love to see them!

The puppet theatre.

Last week, Ella busily worked to create a mini puppet theatre.

Following on from this she was inspired to create some puppets to use with her theatre and this captured the imaginations of many of the girls in the class. Here are some images of the girls at work:

Freedom.

Yesterday, we once again had the pleasure of visiting our mountain. The girls continue to explore this place with a real sense of wonder and delight and it is always fascinating to listen to their conversations and observe what takes their interest each time. Today the girls began to notice little details such as spiders webs intricately woven on the trunks of trees, and tiny flowers sprouting up through the long long grass.

Every visit to the mountain provides us with rich new encounters and new conversations...

Natural compositions.

"Can you hear that sound? It's the sound of the leaves crunching."

- Charlotte

Recently, we set up a provocation of Autumn leaves at our 'making table' alongside some glue, cello tape, paper and a pestle and mortar. Due to the season which we now find ourselves in, the streets are littered with beautiful leaves and so it seemed natural to collect some of these and present them to the girls in an interesting way, for them to transform.

Several of the girls worked to create beautiful and unique pieces of artwork with the leaves.

They seemed to particularly enjoy the sensory aspects of this experience such as scrunching the leaves beneath their fingers, breaking them into tiny pieces for their compositions, as well as manipulating the leaves with the pestle and mortar.

Here are some images of Charlotte's encounter with the leaves:

We are always looking for more natural resources for the classroom, and so we encourage you to do some collecting with your daughter if you are ever visiting a farm, park or the beach etc. Items which are of particular interest are things such as shells, leaves, sticks and bark.

'This is me'

Celebrating our individuality and uniqueness through self-portraits.

Today we worked to create self-portraits with sketching pencils on paper. Before we began our drawings we discussed the many different aspects that make up our faces, and following on from this we carefully examined ourselves in the mirror. The girls then worked with real intent to create these images of themselves.

Eyes.

Over the past two weeks we have been exploring the concept of eyes. As a gift for our parents (these were presented at our parent evening on Thursday night), the girls have worked with different medium to create some beautiful images of their own eyes.

We now have these on display on one of our documentation boards, and we encourage you to have a look. These images will eventually be transferred into the girls Learning Journals.

Thank you.

Thank you so much to all of you who made it along to our first ever parent evening, held on Thursday night. It was so wonderful to have you all together at one time and to share with you our journey so far. We appreciate your encouragement and feedback regarding the work that we do here in the Foundation Class and always welcome your thoughts and ideas.

The girls had a wonderful time discovering the eyes that you drew for them on Friday afternoon.

We look forward to hosting you all again sometime in the near future.

Mufti Day.

Today we had our first ever Mufti Day which was very exciting indeed! Here are some beautiful images we captured of the girls showing off their wonderful clothes.

We have some real fashionistas in the class, don't you think?

In light of having the Mufti Day the girls each selected a book (or several) to donate to St John's kindergarten in Fiji. Thank you all so much for your generosity.
